TREE, WREATH, & GARLAND CARE

TREE CARE

How To Care For Your Lantern Farm Christmas Tree

Make every moment of the season count with a fresh, fragrant tree from Lantern Farm. These tips will help your tree stay vibrant, beautiful, and memory-making all through the holidays.

  • 🌲 Fresh Cut for a Fresh Start: Even though your tree was freshly cut at Lantern Farm, it’s important to re-cut the trunk about one inch from the base before setting it up if you don't plan to put it in water within a few hours after cutting. Why? When trees are cut, sap begins to seal off the trunk, making water absorption difficult. This simple step opens the tree’s cells and lets it drink deeply, keeping those needles lush and the scent of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the air.
  • 💧 Quench Its Thirst: Water is your tree's best friend. Use a sturdy stand that holds at least 1 gallon of water. Provide 1 quart per inch of trunk diameter daily. Check the water level every day, especially that first week—some trees drink a full gallon in 24 hours! If the water drops below the base, make another fresh cut. No sugar, bleach, or aspirin—plain tap water works perfectly.
  • 🏡 The Right Spot Makes All the Difference:  Choose your tree’s location carefully: Keep it away from heat sources like fireplaces, radiators, or direct sunlight. Cooler rooms help preserve needle retention and overall freshness. Your tree loves a chill vibe—it’s been outside all year, after all.
  • ✨ Light & Decorate with Love: Decorate with care: Opt for LED or miniature lights, low heat means longer-lasting joy. Turn lights off when you're away or turning in for the night. Check light strings for damage, and avoid electrical overloads. Flame-resistant ornaments are the icing on the pine-scented cake.  Make sure you hang ornaments on the front and back.  A tree unevenly weighted is likely to fall when you least expect it.
  • 🌟 Keep the Magic Going (Then Let It Go Gracefully): Fraser Firs from Lantern Farm are known for their lasting freshness. Enjoy your tree’s beauty all season long, and when it starts to show signs of dryness, it’s time to part ways. Look for excessive needle drop as your cue. Never burn your tree—it’s a fire hazard.  Check with local recycling programs for eco-friendly disposal.

Our handcrafted wreaths are made with fresh pine and fir right here at the farm.  designed to bring fragrance, beauty, and tradition into your home.

To help your wreath stay vibrant and fresh throughout the holiday season, here are our trusted care tips:

  • 🛁 Rehydrate Before Hanging:  Soak your wreath in room-temperature water overnight before displaying it. This gives your fraser and pine cuttings the hydration they need to stay lush and aromatic.
  • 💦 Mist Daily to Keep It Fresh: Mist the front and back every day or two using a spray bottle filled with clean water.  If indoors, mist morning and night for extra freshness.
  • 📍 Choose the Right Spot:  Outdoors: Hang in a shaded, covered area—like your porch, barn, or entryway—to protect from direct sun and wind. Indoors: Display in a cool room, away from heat vents, fireplaces, and windows with direct sunlight.
  • 🛡️ Optional: Anti-Desiccant Spray: Apply a plant-safe anti-desiccant spray to prolong moisture retention. This is especially helpful if your wreath will be indoors or exposed to warm air.
  • 🌙 Nighttime Care Tip: For wreaths displayed indoors, mist before bedtime and gently cover with a plastic bag overnight to help lock in moisture. In the morning, remove the bag and mist again.
